The basics of THE PREDATOR are that the action, the fighting, the gore, the jokes, and the performances are really quite good. It’s just that the actors involved could have done so much more with a more ambitious movie and script.

There have been bad franchise revivals before, but at least there's a sense that those revivals have love for the original films they fail to emulate. The Predator comes off like Black secretly loathed Predator and resented its success for years.
